How to make chicken biryani at home

Chicken biryani is a popular dish made with chicken, rice, and a variety of spices. Here is a basic recipe that you can use to make chicken biryani at home:


Ingredients:

2 cups basmati rice

2 cups water

1 lb boneless chicken thighs or breasts

2 onions, thinly sliced

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1 tablespoon ginger, minced

1 teaspoon cumin powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)

1 teaspoon garam masala

Salt to taste

1/4 cup yogurt

2 tablespoons ghee or oil

1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)


Instructions:


1. Rinse the rice in water several times until the water runs clear. Soak in water for at least 30 minutes.


2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until they are golden brown.


3. Add the ginger and garlic, and cook for another minute.


4. Add the chicken and stir-fry until it is cooked through.


5. Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder (if using), garam masala and salt to taste. Stir well and cook for a couple of minutes.


6. Add the yogurt and cook until the chicken is well coated in the spice mixture.


7. Drain the rice and add it to the pot. Mix well.


8. Add 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.


9. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked.


10. Turn off the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes.


11. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro.


Serve hot.
